Artuch Tajikistan is a company that owns the Artuch Mountain Base, which was established in 1971 in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Tajikistan. The base is situated at an altitude of 2200 meters in the renowned Fann Mountains region, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and crystal-clear lakes.

Day 1. Dushanbe

  • Arrival in Dushanbe
    • Arrival in the city of Dushanbe and the beginning of an excursion to the city's main sights.
  • City Tour
    • Visit Ismail Somoni Square, Rudaki Park, the park with the tallest flagpole in the world (165 m), the Square of the National Emblem, the Presidential Palace, and Kokhi Navruz.
  • Lunch
    • Lunch at the national restaurant Chakan.
  • Afternoon Excursion
    • After lunch, we will visit the Khisor Fortress (Hisar Fortress).
    • The history of Khisor is rich and colorful, as the fortress served as a stronghold for local forces during the Basmachi movement (local freedom fighters).
    • In the 1920s, the region witnessed a power struggle between Bolshevik forces and Pan-Turkist occupiers under Ottoman General Enver Pasha.
  • Return to Dushanbe
    • Return to Dushanbe and visit the Mehrgon Bazaar.
    • Our local team will be preparing transportation and supplies necessary for the trip to the Pamirs.
  • Dinner
    • Dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2. Dushanbe – Kalai Khumb (Darvaz)

    • We begin our journey east toward Khorog and the Pamirs, heading to Kalai Khumb.
  • Kalai Khumb
    • Kalai Khumb is the center of the Darvaz region in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan.
    • The region reflects more conservative traditions, evident in the local style of dress. The hospitality of the people is exceptionally warm and welcoming.
  • Lunch
    • Lunch at a picturesque spot next to a small lake.
  • Sagirdasht (Haburabad) Pass
    • We will drive through the Sagirdasht (Haburabad) Pass, where you can enjoy breathtaking landscapes, views of snowy peaks, and several other scenic passes.
  • Photo Stops
    • Several photo stops will be made in local villages to get a closer look at the everyday life of the people.
  • Arrival in Kalai Khumb

Day 3. Kalai Khumb – Khorog

Day 3. Kalai Khumb – Khorog

    • Our journey today follows the Pyanj River, a tributary of the mighty Amu Darya River, which also forms the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
    • This is a scenic and unique route, where the contrast between the two sides of the river is striking.
  • Tajikistan vs. Afghanistan
    • On the Tajik side, the road is paved, and there are modern buildings with electricity.
    • On the Afghan side, there is no paved road, and the buildings are constructed from clay and wood.
    • The close proximity between Khorog and the Afghan side is truly fascinating.
  • Continue to Khorog
    • We continue our journey to Khorog, a small town nestled in a mountain valley and the capital of the autonomous Gorno-Badakhshan region.
    • Khorog is situated at an altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level, spanning both sides of the Gant River.
    • A few kilometers downstream, the Gant River merges with the Pyanj River, which marks the border with Afghanistan.
  • Visit to the Botanical Garden
    • In Khorog, we will visit the Botanical Garden, a serene spot showcasing the region’s diverse flora.

Day 4. Khorog – Ishkashim – Yamg – Langar

Day 4. Khorog – Ishkashim – Yamg – Langar

  • Morning Departure
    • After breakfast, we depart and make our first stop at the famous Garmchashma hot spring near Khorog.
  • Journey to Ishkashim
    • We then continue driving to Ishkashim, a small town located at the mouth of the Wakhan Corridor.
    • Historically, Ishkashim was significant as the endpoint of the Great Game in the 19th century.
  • Kakh-Kakha Fortress
    • Before reaching Ishkashim, we will take a short walk to the ruins of the ancient Kakh-Kakha Fortress.
    • This fortress dates back to the 4th century AD and was built during the Kushan era.
  • Scenic Views of the Wakhan Corridor
    • Continuing our journey, we drive along the northern side of the river, offering stunning views of the Pamir Mountains.
    • As we enter the Wakhan Corridor, we are treated to breathtaking views of the Pamirs on the left and the Hindu Kush mountains on the right.
    • Ahead, we will have a clear view of Karl Marx Peak (6,723 m).

    • We begin the day with a visit to the ancient petroglyphs, where more than 600 rock paintings, created by the region's early inhabitants, can be seen.
  • Drive to Bulunkul
    • We drive to Bulunkul, passing through the Khargush Pass (4,344 m), the primary source of the Amu Darya River.
    • Along the way, we will explore the region’s stunning surroundings, featuring numerous lakes.
  • View of Lake Bulunkul
    • From the pass, a breathtaking view of Lake Bulunkul unfolds.
  • Yashil-Kul and Bulunkul Lakes
    • Yashil-Kul and Bulunkul (Blue Lakes) are located at an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level in the Murghab region.
    • These lakes are home to a variety of fish species, making them a true natural wonder.
  • Yaks and Unique Wildlife
    • Here, you will also have the chance to see yaks, unique domestic animals that share traits with both cows and sheep.
    • Yaks have traditionally been used as pack animals and provide milk, meat, and other essential products.

    • People from all over the country visit to experience the healing properties of the spring water, making this a great opportunity for you to relax and swim in the natural source.
  • Drive Along the Gunt Valley
    • After our stop, we continue driving to Khorog, following the picturesque Gunt Valley, which offers breathtaking views.

    • Finally, we arrive back in Khorog, concluding this leg of the journey.

Day 8. Kalai Khumb – Kulob – Dushanbe

    • In the early morning, we begin our drive back to Dushanbe via the southern road, passing through the cities of Kulyab, Khulbuk Fortress, Dangara, and Nurek.
  • Visit to Nurek
    • In Nurek, you will have the opportunity to admire the impressive Nurek Reservoir, one of the largest in Central Asia.
    • We will also visit the Nurek Hydroelectric Power Station.
  • Gala Dinner
    • Upon arrival in Dushanbe, we will host a gala dinner to celebrate the successful completion of our journey along the Pamir Highway.
