Tour in brief

The Fann Mountains, in northwestern Tajikistan near the Uzbekistan border, are a stunning part of the Western Pamir-Alay Range. With around 100 peaks over 5,000m and breathtaking alpine lakes, they are a paradise for nature lovers and mountaineers yet remain largely undiscovered. Easily accessed from Penjikent or Dushanbe, the journey takes you through ancient Tajik mountain villages, where locals maintain their traditions. Scenic roadside chaikhanas serve osh and tea by roaring streams, while fresh mountain springs attract travelers seeking pure, natural water.

Day 2. Artuch – Bibijanat Lake

For the next three days, we take a driver and one or two mules that will carry our food and some of the equipment.

The passage to Bibijanat Lake:
The lake is located at an altitude of 2800 m in the Kulikalon Lakes system.

A series of these lakes is located in the Kulikalon basin, around which there are high rock walls that attract many climbers.

In the waters of the Kulikalon lakes, the peaks of Maria (4970 m) and Mirali (5170 m) are reflected.

Day 3. Bibijanat Lake – Alauddin Pass – Alauddin Lakes

Breakfast, camp gathering, and start the ascent to the Alauddin Pass, which is at 3730 meters. The altitude gain is almost 1000 meters. The terrain is relatively simple, but the ascent is prolonged, and the high altitude makes the climb more challenging. On the way, we'll pass by the picturesque Dyushakha Lake. The ascent to the pass takes 5-6 hours, and the descent to the Alauddin Lakes takes 2 hours. The Alauddin Lakes are considered the most beautiful lakes in the Fan Mountains, with crystal clear water and a bright blue hue. We will set up tents by the lake.

Day 4. Alauddin Lakes – Muddy (Mutniye) lakes

In the morning, we gather the camp, pack our backpacks, and head towards the Muddy Lakes, located at 3430 meters at the foot of Chimtarga Peak. The trail is rocky with a smooth climb. On the way, we pass a small, but very beautiful and cold lake, Piala, where we can swim.

We pitch tents near the Muddy Lakes. The temperature drops to +5°C in the evening, making it cooler here than below. The distance covered is 6 kilometers, with a climb of 730 meters.

Day 5. Muddy lakes – foothills of Chimtarga Pass

Day 5. Muddy lakes – foothills of Chimtarga Pass

The hike from this point presents some challenges. The cargo previously carried by mules will be redistributed among the backpacks of the tourists and guides.

This day's hike is considered difficult:

The trail initially traverses a scree slope among loose stones.
We will cross several small streams.
As we ascend, the terrain becomes more rugged, with glacier exits.
We will jump over glacial streams.
We will spend the night at an altitude of 4500 meters, near the Chimtarga Pass. There may be some mild discomfort due to the altitude. Nighttime temperatures can drop to between -2 and -5°C. What to visit
