Day 1. Dushanbe - Hissar Fortress - Dushanbe
Day 1. Dushanbe - Hissar Fortress - Dushanbe
This itinerary combines history, local culture, and relaxed sightseeing. The journey begins with a comfortable drive from Dushanbe to the town of Hissar, located about 40 km from the capital. As we leave the city behind, the scenery gradually changes, offering a glimpse of the traditional landscapes of Tajikistan.
Before reaching the fortress, we stop to taste freshly baked tandoor bread, prepared on site and served hot. During the cotton harvest season, an additional stop at the cotton fields may be possible, where guests can take photos and pick a small cotton branch as a souvenir.
Upon arrival at Hissar Fortress, the guided tour begins with a visit to the Madrasah and the museum. The Madrasah was an important Islamic educational institution that played a significant role in the history of the region. The visit to the Madrasah and museum lasts approximately 40 minutes. Afterward, we see the old Madrasah located nearby. Although it is closed to visitors, it remains an important historical monument.
The excursion then continues through Hissar Fortress, one of Tajikistan's most important historical sites. During the guided walk, which lasts about 40 minutes, your guide will explain the history of the fortress and its role in the region over the centuries.
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the area. You may walk up to the reconstructed ruler's residence for panoramic views of the Hissar Valley, take complimentary photos in traditional Tajik clothing, browse the local souvenir shops, or enjoy horseback riding within the fortress grounds.
If you wish, you can have lunch at one of the nearby local restaurants, Sharshara or Shomi Kal'a.
After the visit, we return to Dushanbe. The tour concludes with a leisurely walk through the city center, where you will see the Ismail Somoni Monument, the National Library of Tajikistan, Rudaki Park, the Parliament Building, and the National Flagpole-some of the capital's most recognizable landmarks.
